HOW TO HANG PICTURES AND ART

The question I get most when I work is "how should I hang my pictures". Now I thought I would give you some tips on just that, and at the bottom of the page also a tool for hanging pictures without measuring. Always start from yourself and what YOU want to see on the walls. Combining old and new, different frames perhaps? Dare to test yourself. Before you start nailing the walls, always plan the wall by laying out the pictures on the floor in a combination that you like. That is, if you want to make a cluster of motifs.

Do not hang art / pictures too high! A good measure is usually that you should be able to stand dormant and see the upper edge of the board, (about two steps from it). Many people place the pictures too high, but keep in mind that you usually sit down in a room, and in addition the ceiling height is better if the pictures do not sit too close to the ceiling.

OLD & NEW, DIFFERENT FRAMES

Sometimes you inherit some paintings, and if you want to mix black and white motifs with colored ones, a tip is to scan in the photos you have in color and make them black / white. Then it becomes more harmonious on the wall.

Try to use the same color scale on the frames, regardless of whether they are round or rectangular, also means that the motifs appear more.

HIGH, LOW AND NARROW SPACES

In the picture to the left, you see the surface under a staircase. Let the paintings follow the stairs and not the angled wall. However, the paintings should be finished in a straight line towards the end of the wall. Then they talk about "this is where it ends". In the picture, it has been enhanced with a black lamp.

Picture 2. Here you want the space and show the roof. You then have an uneven edge on the paintings at the top. If you want to lower the ceiling, you make that line straight with paintings at the same height.

FINISH UP WITH SOMETHING ROUND

If you want to make the ceiling a little higher in another way, put something around in the right corner.

The eye reads from left to right, which makes you see lines and then take the round detail (the clock in this case) and make a grunt so the eye goes upwards. Just like a roundabout.

It creates dynamics, volume and makes the wall not feel flat.

HANG PICTURES WITH A TOOL.

MAKE ONE YOURSELF.

Do this tool so you never have to measure again. Hang the board on the nail, and lift up the strip so the board ends up where you want it on the wall.

Remove the board and press on the nail. Then you get a marking where you can then put a nail or drill a hole.

This tool is superb, as all pictures look different with strings, ribbons and wires on the back, and also at different heights. With this, it will be perfectly straight.

YOU NEED:

  • 1 piece of wood (trim or similar)

  • 1 nail

  • 1 hammer
